The SkyWatcher NEQ-5 Pro GoTo mount is an ideal choice for those looking to do astrophotography with larger-aperture telescopes, or for anyone seeking a GoTo mount for visual observing.
The 45 mm diameter steel tripod legs and ball-bearing-mounted axes provide ample stability for 15–20 cm reflector or catadioptric telescopes. For refractors, we recommend models up to 12 cm in aperture, while short-tube versions up to 15 cm may also be suitable. The metal accessory tray further increases tripod rigidity and also provides space for 4 pcs 1.25" and 2 pcs 2" eyepieces.
In addition to GoTo control, the SynScan hand controller offers a range of extra functions that are useful for both visual observers and astrophotographers. Its database contains more than 42,900 objects, allowing the telescope to be pointed at the selected target with just a few button presses. It also features backlash compensation, helping to reduce the effects of gear play.
The SkyWatcher NEQ-5 Pro GoTo mount can also be connected to a PC or popular mini computers such as the ZWO ASIAir or Touptek StellaVita using an EQMOD cable. Astrophotographers will especially appreciate the ST-4 autoguider port, which can significantly improve tracking accuracy. This is particularly important when capturing long-exposure images. The mount can also be expanded with an optional Wi-Fi module, enabling control via an app running on a smartphone or tablet.
Accurate polar alignment is assisted by the included illuminated reticle polar scope. The standard package includes a cable fitted with a cigarette lighter plug, allowing the mount to be powered from a car battery as well. For operation from a 230 V mains supply, a power adapter capable of delivering at least 2 A is required; this is not included in the standard package. For those looking for a portable power solution, we recommend a sealed lead-acid battery.
