SkyWatcher's new AZGTi azimuth mechanism is motorized, GoTo controlled and can be operated via wi-fi connection from a smobile phone or tablet. Optionally, it can be used with SynScan handheld controls. Thanks to the built-in encoders, it can be moved freely by hand, switching between automatic and manual search at any time without losing position.
The mechanic creates its own wireless connection, so it can communicate with your mobile device even in places where wifi or cellular network is not available. You can easily control it using the SynScan app, which can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play store for your iOS or Android device. The mechanics can also be used with the SkySafari planetarium app, which can be downloaded to your mobile phone and includes, among other things, an updatable database of small planets and comets.
The AZGTi mechanics can also be operated with internal batteries from a built-in battery holder. Internal power and wi-fi connectivity allow the mechanic to be operated without cables. It also has an external power connection for operation from a car cigarette lighter or battery. An optional mains adapter is required for operation from a 220V mains supply.
The stable tripod can carry a payload of approximately 5 kg. The head is equipped with a Vixen-compatible prism rail, and there is a 3/8" thread on the bottom for attaching it to the top of photo tripods. The complete mechanism is easy to carry, weighing only 4kg.
After a firmware update, the AzGTi can also be used in equatorial mode, in which case the use of a counterweight is particularly recommended. The Star Adventurer counterweight is recommended for this purpose, as well as an M8 / M12 thread reducer.
