Sky-Watcher's new AZ-GTi alt-azimuth mount features motorized movement and GoTo control, and can be operated via a Wi-Fi connection using a smartphone or tablet. It can also optionally be used with a SynScan hand controller. Thanks to the built-in encoders, it can be moved freely by hand, allowing you to switch between automatic and manual slewing at any time without losing position.
The mount creates its own wireless network, enabling communication with your mobile device even in locations where Wi-Fi or mobile network coverage is unavailable. It can be easily controlled using the free SynScan app, available for iOS and Android devices from the App Store or Google Play. The mount can also be used with the SkySafari mobile planetarium app, which includes, among other features, an updatable database of asteroids and comets.
The AZ-GTi mount can also be powered by internal batteries housed in the built-in battery compartment. Thanks to its internal power supply and Wi-Fi connection, the mount can be operated without cables. It also features an external power input, allowing it to be powered from a vehicle cigarette lighter socket or a battery. An optional AC adapter is required for operation from a 220 V mains supply.
The sturdy tripod can support a payload of approximately 5 kg. The mount head is equipped with a Vixen-compatible dovetail clamp and features a 3/8" thread on the bottom for mounting on top of a photographic tripod. Weighing only 4 kg, the complete mount is easy to transport.
Following a firmware update, the AZ-GTi mount can also be used in equatorial mode; in this configuration, the use of a counterweight is highly recommended. A Star Adventurer counterweight and an M8/M12 thread adapter screw are recommended for this purpose.
