Sky-Watcher’s new AZ-GTi alt-azimuth mount features motorized movement and GoTo control, and can be operated via Wi-Fi using a smartphone or tablet. It can also optionally be used with a SynScan hand controller. Thanks to its built-in encoders, it can be moved freely by hand, allowing you to switch between automatic and manual target acquisition at any time without losing position.
The mount creates its own wireless network, enabling it to communicate with your mobile device even in locations without Wi-Fi or mobile network coverage. It can be easily controlled using the free SynScan app, available for iOS and Android devices from the App Store and Google Play. The mount can also be used with the SkySafari mobile planetarium app, which includes, among other features, updatable asteroid and comet databases.
The AZ-GTi mount can also operate on internal batteries using its built-in battery compartment. With its internal power supply and Wi-Fi connection, the mount can be operated without cables. It also features an external power input, allowing it to be powered from a car cigarette lighter socket or a battery. An optional AC adapter is required for operation from a 220 V mains supply.
The mount head is fitted with a Vixen-compatible dovetail clamp and features a 3/8" thread on the underside for mounting on a photographic tripod. Weighing just 4 kg, the complete mount is easy to transport.
Following a firmware update, the AZ-GTi mount can also be used in equatorial mode, in which case the use of a counterweight is particularly recommended. A Star Adventurer counterweight and an M8/M12 thread adapter bolt are recommended for this purpose.
