The SkyWatcher AZ-Go2 102/1300 MC telescope is an ideal choice for those looking for a portable, easy-to-use GOTO telescope with serious performance.
The short optical tube and lightweight single-arm mount make the instrument easy to transport. Its excellent optics deliver surprisingly sharp, high-contrast images, allowing you to observe Jupiter’s Great Red Spot and the famous Cassini Division in Saturn’s rings. It also reveals numerous galaxies and resolves a wealth of star clusters.
The Az-Go2 mount features GoTo control: its WiFi connection allows it to be controlled from a mobile phone or tablet. The telescope can be easily operated using the free SynScan app, available for download to your device. This feature is particularly useful for beginners, as there is no need to know the names or positions of stars; simply align the mount using one or two bright stars. The telescope can also be used with the SkySafari mobile planetarium app, which includes, among other features, an updatable asteroid and comet database. Naturally, the mount not only locates the selected object but also tracks it.
The package includes a 25 mm and a 10 mm eyepiece, providing 52x and 130x magnification. For additional magnification, the TMB Planetary II (WA Plössl) 8 mm eyepiece is an optimal choice, delivering 163x magnification. A star pointer makes locating celestial objects easier, while a mirror diagonal ensures comfortable observing.
In addition to astronomical use, this instrument also performs excellently as a daytime nature-viewing telescope. For even more comfortable use, an Amici prism is available as an optional accessory. (An Amici prism provides an upright, correctly oriented image through the telescope.)
The SkyWatcher AZ-Go2 102/1300 MC telescope can also be powered by batteries, although this is not recommended. For operation from a 220 V mains supply, an optional 12 V AC adapter is required. For field observing, we also recommend purchasing a 12 V gel battery, power cable and battery charger.
