Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes are particularly renowned for their outstanding image contrast and sharpness. The SkyWatcher SkyMax 180/2700 MC telescope is no exception: you can easily spot Jupiter's Great Red Spot or the famous Cassini's Rift in Saturn's ring. Its 2700 mm focal length makes it easy to achieve high magnifications, but its compact design makes it surprisingly portable. A true planetary telescope, it is a worthy alternative to expensive apochromatic instruments.
The telescope is equipped with a 2" focuser, which provides a larger field of view than is usual for a Makasutov-Cassegrain telescope. The basic package includes a 2" zenith mirror and a 2" 28 mm eyepiece, which gives a magnification of 96x. With additional eyepieces, however, magnification of up to 3-400x can be achieved in sufficiently calm skies. A 9x50 finder scope makes it easy to align the celestial bodies.
