The accuracy of the pole alignment of the mount can be increased by using a pole telescope. For visual observation a "coarse" setting is sufficient, but for photography a higher accuracy is needed, so a polariscope is most useful in this case.
The fibre-plate of the polariscope is precession-corrected, which helps to make it even more accurate.
