The ZWO FF80 apo telescope has been specially designed for the mobile astrophotographer. The dew cap of the tube slides back to take up a maximum of 448 mm of space when transporting the lightweight, 3.9 kg instrument.
For premium imaging quality, the ZWO FF80 apo tube houses a quintuplet lens system with two ED lens elements at the front. This allows for virtually chromatic aberration-free imaging with apochromatic optics. A two-piece image plane corrector built into the back of the tube does its job, so that even when using a full-frame sensor, the stars remain point-like at the edges.
The mechanical components of the telescope are easily recognizable as being designed with practical needs in mind. The strong and lightweight aluminium alloy, machined using CNC- technology, has resulted in a tube that is not only useful but also eye-catching.
His uniquely designed tube rings are attached to a Vixen-standard prismatic rail, which is richly lined with holes for other mounting options. The tubular rings are held together by a supporting grip on top, adding to their stability. The ZWO FF80 apo tube's 3", 1:10 ratio, two-bladed Crayford gouge provides extremely precise focusing, and the gouge end can be rotated 360°, so no rotation adapter is needed when using it. Three different adapters are included for attaching the camera, giving you 76, 68, 54, 48 mm connection options. So that we don't have to do the math, for each of the three mounting modes, the manufacturer has specified the distance the camera sensor should be (168.5, 155, 135, 115 mm) with the focus lock locked in.
