The ZWO ASI 678 MM monochrome camera features the SONY IMX678 back-illuminated sensor. The high-sensitivity sensor (QE ∼83%) has a resolution of 8.3 megapixels and a pixel size of 2 microns. These features allow fine details to be captured in lunar and planetary imagery, but the camera is also capable of depth imaging.
The 3840 x 2160 resolution sensor features passive cooling. This is a heat-dissipating "cushion" that conducts the heat generated during sensor operation into the camera housing and through it into the environment. It allows the sensor to operate at temperatures up to 15°C lower when shooting long shutter speeds, resulting in less noise. Using 12-bit hue spread at full resolution, the camera can capture images of the moon, sun or planet at 47.5 fps. When shooting depth shots, the rich shade coverage is also an advantage for capturing fine detail
.The ZWO ASI 678 MM monochrome camera does not have a UV/IR block filter built in, so it is extremely sensitive in this wavelength range. Of course, a UV/IR block filter can be added to the light path if required.
As the ZWO ASI 678 MM monochrome camera also has an ST4 connector, it can also be used as a guideway camera.
