The ZWO ASI 585 MC colour camera with its huge resolution and large sensor can be seen as an upgraded version of the ASI 485 MC, as it has the same sensor size and resolution as the two cameras.
The ZWO ASI 585 MC colour camera has a 12.86 mm sensor and a pixel size of 2.9 microns, allowing a large field of view at higher resolution. The camera is a good choice for both planet-hold and deep-sky imaging, and its higher (QE 91%)sensitivity than its predecessor can be used in both areas.
As opposed to monochrome cameras, colour, so-called "single shot" cameras simplify the work of those who do not want to shoot with L-RGB colour filtering. The extra-low readout noise of the 8 megapixel (3840 x 2160)sensor is also low at high gain, thanks to effective noise reduction, even when shooting at extended shutter speeds. When shooting at slower shutter speeds, previous cameras often experienced 'flare', which could only be compensated for by post-production. With the ZWO ASI 585 MC colour camera, longer shutter speeds (2000 seconds) can be recorded at low noise levels, while also eliminating the "amp glow" or "flare" effect when amplifying the signal.
Videos can be recorded at 46.9 fps 4K UHD resolution at 47 fps (frames per second), allowing a large number of frames to be captured in a short time, increasing the chances of a successful recording.EAA astronomical observations are also possible with the camera, allowing small groups to view the camera's image simultaneously, especially with a solar (with solar filter!), Moon, planets and some of the brighter deep-sky objects.
The ZWO ASI 585MC camera features a USB 3.0 connector, which allows for much higher image transfer speeds, meaning that more shots can be captured in a given amount of time for larger image sizes. This is most relevant for shooting the Moon and Sun, but less so for capturing the planets. Of course, it can also be used with a USB 2.0 connection, but for proper data transfer, it is better to use a USB 3.0 connection.
Of course, the camera can also be used for guiding, for which a standard ST4 guider port is available.
For image capture, there is a range of free software available to download from the internet, and for Windows we particularly recommend SharpCap and FireCapture. The cameras require Windows XP or later, but can also be used under Linux and even Macintosh support (we recommend USB 3 versions).
