The ToupTek G3 585C colour camera can be seen as an alternative to the popular ZWO ASI 585 MC colour camera, as the same sensor made by Sony is the heart of the camera and thus the capabilities are almost identical.
The camera allows you to shoot in colour in one "step", without the need for the L-RGB colour filtering technique that is essential for monochrome versions. The 8 megapixel (3840 x 2160) Sony IMX585 sensor does its job with incredibly low readout noise. Thanks to highly efficient noise reduction, it also operates at low noise levels even at high gain when shooting at extended shutter speeds.
When shooting at slower shutter speeds, many cameras often experienced "flare", which could only be compensated for by post-production. With the ToupTek G3 585C colour camera, longer shutter speeds (2000 seconds) can be recorded at low noise levels, while eliminating the "amp glow" or "glossing" effect that can occur with signal amplification. This result is greatly aided by the internal 512 MB DDR3 memory buffer, which also ensures stability of data traffic.
ToupTek G3 585C's color camera sensor with its 12.86 mm image diagonal also makes it suitable for larger depth-of-field photography. Fine detail is guaranteed by the small 2.9 μm pixel size, making it an ideal choice as a sun, moon and planet camera and for depth photography, as it has a very high (QE 91%)sensitivity. As the camera does not have a built-in UV/IR filter, it remains sensitive to these ranges, but of course you can add a filter to the light path afterwards.
Of course, you can shoot not only stills but also video if you want to use it as a planetary camera, in which case 3840 x 2160 resolution at 47fps (frames per second) 1920 x 1080 resolution is 70fps, which is a very high value. For data transfer, there's a USB 3.0 port on the chassis, which also provides power. The ST4 port for driving is also located on the back of the housing, as the camera can also be used as a driving camera. The heat generated during camera operation is dissipated by a fan, which is not Peltier-type and cannot cool the sensor below ambient temperature.
For image capture, there are a number of free software downloads available on the internet, SharpCap and FireCapture are particularly recommended for Windows, but the manufacturer's own software (ToupSky) is also great for use. The popular PHD2 software also supports the camera, while the use of the ASCOM driver gives the device even broader support. The camera can be used with Windows, Linux and even Macintosh operating systems.
