The SkyWatcher EvoGuide 50ED is more than just a driving binocular. It is essentially a 50 mm diameter, 242 mm focus finder telescope, but with outstanding mechanics and optical quality, making it capable of serious astrophotography.
The heart of the telescope is a 50 mm diameter S-FPL-53 glass-material ED lens objective that provides a contrasty, detailed image. The eyepiece features a 1.25" eyepiece mount and a T2 thread for mounting the guide camera, which can be brought into sharp focus with a precise helical focus adjustment. A parfocalizing ring is included, which can be brought back into focus in a single movement by placing it on the camera. A 40 mm extension piece is included so that you can also focus with an eyepiece. The basic optics provide image correction of around 15 mm, which can be increased to 28 mm with the optional image plane corrector.
A sign of the outstanding mechanical workmanship is the plastic inserts at the end of the six screws holding the telescope, which provide a gentle attachment. The binoculars have a Vixen-compatible prism rail for easy attachment to most mechanics, and the package includes a mounting bracket for fitting into the slipper on SkyWatcher binoculars.
