Azimuthal mechanics, such as the new AZ-5 from SkyWatcher are the first choice of amateur astronomers when maximum portability is the goal. It is also recommended for those looking for a stable and smoothly moving mount for nature observation, where two allen keys can be used to adjust the head to a near-vertical position for added stability. Maximum load capacity is 5 kg.
The mechanical head allows for flexible manual fine movement on both axes via finishing knobs. The head is compatible with Vixen prismatic rails and the stand leg is made of stainless steel. The stable leg can carry a payload of around 8 kg.
The bottom of the AZ-5 head has a 3/8" thread for attaching it to the top of photo tripods.
