No matter how carefully we handle them, every lens will eventually collect some dirt or dust. This is where a manual air blower comes in handy.
When cleaning optical lenses, it is advisable to blow away any loose dust particles from the surface before using lens cleaning fluid and/or a microfibre cloth. Unfortunately, dust particles can vary in composition, and some may scratch the anti-reflective coating if not removed, causing unwanted reflections and reducing image quality.
Two tools are generally used to remove dust particles: an air blower or a compressed air spray. However, only high-quality, contaminant-free compressed air sprays should be used. An air blower, or bulb blower, can be carried with you at all times, never runs out, and is a practical tool for cleaning optics.
