The Baader Amici prism 1.25" (45") is mainly intended for daytime nature observation, as it provides both upright and side-on images in refractor, Schmidt and Makasutov-Cassegrain binoculars. Its prism is made of high quality BAK4 glass material, coated with a multi-layer anti-reflection coating: this promises excellent image contrast for ground observation. The free aperture of the prism is 24 mm, which guarantees better image quality than cheaper models, even when using longer focal length eyepieces.
Amici prisms are not recommended for astronomical use, as they provide a lower quality image than zenith mirrors. Amici prisms should not be used in Newtonian telescopes!
